Terms of use. The short version: the websites in this archive belong to the people who made them. We point to them, show what they look like and say why they are worth studying.
Last updated . By using arche.directory you agree to these terms. If you don’t, please don’t use the site.
What Arche Directory is
Arche Directory (“we”, “us”) is a free, hand-curated index of websites, kept for reference, education and commentary on web design. Each entry links to a publicly available website and shows a screenshot, sometimes a short silent motion preview, and a few facts about it: its name, category, tags, typefaces and colours.
We don’t sell placement, and being listed is not an award, a ranking or an endorsement of the site’s owner, products or services.
The websites we list are not ours
- Ownership. Every website in the archive, and everything on it — designs, text, images, video, code, names, logos and trademarks — belongs to its respective owner. We claim no ownership of any of it.
- No affiliation. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the owners of the listed websites unless an entry says so explicitly. Names and trademarks are used only to identify the website being described.
- Screenshots and previews. Screenshots and motion previews are captured from the public version of each site, at reduced size and without sound, so readers can recognise and study the work. They are provided for identification, criticism and review, with the source named and linked on every entry. They are not a licence to the work and are not offered for reuse.
- Descriptions. Where a site has no curator note, we quote the site’s own short description and mark it as coming from the site.
- Snapshots in time. A screenshot shows a site as it was on the capture date shown on the entry. The live site may look different now.
If you own or made a listed site and want it removed or corrected, see Removal requests. We honour removal requests from site owners without asking for a reason, usually within 7 days.
Links to other websites
Arche Directory links to websites we don’t control. We review each site when it’s added, but sites change hands, go offline or change their content, and we can’t vouch for what you’ll find there. Visiting them is at your own risk, and their own terms and privacy policies apply. Outbound links carry ref=arche.directory so owners can see where visitors came from. If a listed site now hosts something harmful, please tell us.
Our own content
The selection and arrangement of the archive, the curator notes, the tag vocabulary, the site design and its code are ours. You’re welcome to link to any page and to quote small parts with a link back to arche.directory. The machine-readable files (sites.json, llms.txt) may be used to reference the archive with attribution. Screenshots and previews are not ours to license: for anything beyond viewing them here, ask the site’s owner.
Submissions
When you submit a site, you confirm that the details are accurate and that you’re not submitting anything unlawful. Whether a site is listed is at our discretion; there is no paid placement. If you submit your own work, you agree that we may list it, capture screenshots and previews of it and describe it as set out above — and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
Weekly picks
The newsletter is free and you can unsubscribe at any time. How we handle your email address is explained in the privacy policy.
Using the site fairly
Please don’t use the site or its forms to send spam, misleading or unlawful requests, try to break or overload it, or bulk-download screenshots and previews. We may block traffic that does.
No warranty
The archive is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. We try to keep it accurate and online, but we can’t promise that every entry is current, that every link works or that the site is always available.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of Arche Directory or of websites it links to. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes
We may update these terms as the archive changes. The date at the top shows the latest version; continuing to use the site means you accept it.
